We don't believe that romance should be confined to Valentine's Day. Here are some fabulous retreats, from short hops to longer adventures, to help you spend a blissful week or two celebrating your love, and rekindling that spark, a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Rediscover your love for Spain
For many of us, Spain is a popular destination for all types of holidaymakers, and perfect for your break as a romantic couple.
If you're short on holiday time but still want to show your partner just how important they are, Spain is the ideal choice for a short burst of sun, sangria and tapas! The array of attractions across Spain means you can indulge in your mutual interests, or spend time appreciating your individual leanings, as the country is so diverse, it will appeal to all tastes.
The south coast is the place to be for mornings spent languishing on golden sands with the warmth of the sun on your back - the perfect start to a slower pace of life. And if you're both more used to the 'ships passing in the night' routine back home, a few hours on the beach in each other's company will soon bring you closer together.
Then it's time to get out to explore and, for a variety of coast and culture options, Málaga is a strong contender. The Spanish coast's golden beaches stretch along the Costa del Sol, and the city's history stretches out just as far, as is evidenced in the Moorish architecture sprinkled across the city.
Start out in the Old Town, which blends firmly-rooted traditions and culture harmoniously with vibrant and contemporary museums and art galleries. If you share a mutual love of art, you may well be aware that the city was once home to Pablo Picasso, who was born here in 1881. Museo Picasso Málaga, is en route to the Plaza de la Constitución, in the heart of the Old Quarter.
The permanent collection here chronicles his works, affording you the opportunity to interpret his journey from his early years, following his life as a fully-fledged creative icon. Meanwhile, a rotation of exhibitions throughout the year will ensure your visit is never the same. Olga Picasso is a temporary exhibit named after the artist's first wife. The exhibit features 350 items based around their years spent together, presenting their own personal story set against the political and social backdrop of the time.
Following a visit to the exhibitions, tapas should be the order of the day and there are plenty of options along Calle Marqués de Larios - a street jam-packed with upscale stores and tempting eateries.
But part of the romance is being able to find somewhere slightly off the tourist track where you can dine in a romantic ambience.
Make a reservation at El Pimpi, a bodega bar, for a late lunch, so you can skip the midday rush. Housed within a magnificent 18th-century mansion, it's one of the oldest bodega bars in the city, and prides itself on offering culture and tradition, alongside delicious local food and wines.
As it's lunchtime, the seafood paella is a must, but one look at the menu shows there's no such thing as a bad dish here. Food is sourced from local farmers' markets and fish is supplied from nearby ports. El Pimpi's food history can be traced back over 40 years, so they've had plenty of time to perfect their recipes.
While awaiting your lunch, order a glass of sweet Málaga wine, and soak up the views of the impressive Alcazaba Palace which overlooks the restaurant. And you can use this time to debate what your own personal collection of 'relationship' items would look like after seeing Mrs Picasso's own collection at the exhibition.
Discover enchanting Finland
Granted, the idea of snuggling up under cosy blankets for a winter trip to Finland with your loved one scores high on the hearts and flowers scale, but spring or summer is equally as memorable in this wilderness wonderland.
As the snow melts, and the flora and fauna bursts into life, getting outdoors for a romantic walk in the woods carpeted in wildflowers, or sauntering around the magnificent Finnish lakes will be good for your health - and for the affairs of the heart.
Pack a picnic before you set out, and while away a few hours in conversation until hunger calls. Finnish delights to dine on will typically involve seafood, such as a herring lunch or salmon with rye bread, followed up with freshly picked berries from your woodland walk. The region is very versatile in terms of weather, and at this time of year, you will still find skiing in the north while in the south, the Finns are getting prepared for the long days of summer.
Regardless of where you choose to call home for a week or two, Finland is the perfect place if you're a more active couple who love nothing more than getting out and about.
Turning up the heat in Miami
For something a little further afield, and more exotic, Miami should heat things up a little bit for some adults-only time, without the children.
With a flight time of ten hours from the UK, you may well want to make this a two-week break or a multi-centre adventure. Florida offers up opportunities in abundance; there is the Florida Keys for laidback living, the Everglades for wildlife encounters, Daytona Beach for the petrol heads and beachy keen, and not forgetting the chance to be a child again in Orlando's theme parks.
However you plan to slice and dice your itinerary, check out flights to different Florida airports, as fares can vary considerably. You could save yourself hassle and money by taking the time to research your arrival and departure times carefully.
And of course, those flight savings give you the chance to put your hard-earned cash to better use. As the mantra goes, couples who play together, stay together, so enjoying something new or unusual is an inspired way to create memorable moments.
Catch a baseball game and watch the Miami Marlins play against some notable US teams. The baseball season runs from February until September, and you'll love being swept up in the excitement of a live match.
Sport isn't for everyone of course, but you might both find something to enjoy with the visual delights of the Miami Design District - which brings together design, fashion, architecture and dining.
It's definitely the place to see and be seen, and for enjoying the finer things in life, so this Beverly Hills-like experience will fit the bill, showcasing brands from Balenciaga to Gucci. Allow a good few hours here so you can really take in the atmosphere and creative vibes of the installations, but you'll also want to make room for basking at Dior's Rooftop Café, a chic pop-up eatery for al fresco dining. Well if that's how the rich and famous live...
A monthly calendar of events here includes fashion shows, highlighting the latest trends, interior design demonstrations and orchestral performances, so there's enough going on to take you both outside of your usual habits and interests.
Continuing on the anything goes approach, Coconut Grove is a charming neighbourhood established in the 1800s by a group of pioneers, sailors, artists, naturalists, intellectuals and millionaires, so as you can envisage, it's quite a quirky place to wander around.
Book a free bike tour to explore the district, or try out a free yoga class to ease yourself into the distinctive, laid-back bohemian vibes of the area. A romantic stroll along the sidewalks will take you past quaint boutiques, galleries and gourmet restaurants, while the bay is dotted with sailboats bobbing on the water, which might be a good opportunity for you to play millionaire for a day and pretend to shop for a yacht.
Hitting the beach is essential in Miami and you have your pick of golden grains, the most renowned being South Beach and Ocean Drive. No two beaches are the same.
Nightlife and beaches seemingly go hand in hand in Miami, and with monthly events such as Rum & Relaxation at Circa 39 for sundowners and reggae music, and Bar Nobu for handcrafted libations, cool and edgy beach clubs with happy hour promotions aplenty, your party needs are well covered.
And what better way to top and tail your holiday than with a cocktail toast to love and laughter.
Take a chance on Goa
There's something quite heady and ethereal about India that makes it an extra special backdrop for an anniversary, special occasion or just because. And Goa is suitably balmy between November and March, with a delightful sea breeze - perfect conditions if you're looking for some winter sun.
Just like Miami, you have your choice of beaches to relax on with a good book, and enjoy the simple pleasures of doing nothing together all day long.
After getting your hearts all aflutter, it's time for a different flutter with a visit to the Deltin Royale, Asia's most luxurious floating casino. Share the buzz of gathering around a roulette table waiting for your numbers to come up, and with four floors of gambling and world-class entertainment, plus a whisky lounge, it's the perfect evening of opulence.
The Saturday Night Market is the place to be at the weekend, with a fusion of artisan crafts, hippy vibes and sensational Goan food creating a kaleidoscope of sights, sounds and smells. Shop for some homewares or trinkets as a reminder of the romantic time you spent, long after your holiday has ended.
