Mesmerising Mexico

From relaxation to culture, amazing food and high-octane fun, both families and couples alike will find their holiday heaven in Mexico.

With miles and miles of wonderful white sandy beaches to relax on, Mexico really is the ultimate turn up and tune out destination. From the fun-packed Cancún, to the beautiful stretches of sand on Tulum, Playa del Carmen and Puerto Vallarta beaches, you can change your shoreline viewing point as often as you like.

If you prefer to experience the sights, sounds and soul of a country, culture is in abundance in Mexico. Kick off the sand and head towards the mesmerising ruins of Chichén Itzá, in particular the El Castillo pyramid. For those with a penchant for the arts, take a visit to the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera Museum, or the Palace of Fine Arts, Palacio de Bellas Artes – itself a truly stunning piece of architecture.

With the option to make the most of both family-friendly downtime and the vast amount of tours and excursions available, you really will be spoilt for choice in Mexico.

“The Riviera Maya has so much to offer, and the best way to experience it is to combine your chill out time with some sedate activities and to explore some of the iconic attractions.”

Top 4 Things To Do

1. Chichén Itzá

The amazing Maya ruins are a must-see. Beat the heat with an early morning tour; opt for one accompanied by an experienced archaeologist, or even one that has magical cenote swimming included in the price. Popular throughout both spring and autumnal equinoxes, El Castillo pyramid is the central focal point of Chichén Itzá and comprises terraces and sculptures. During the equinox, the sun’s shadows give the appearance of a serpent slithering down the pyramid – a wondrous sight to behold.

2. Life’s a beach

A trip to Mexico wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of its many wonderful beaches. Yes, sand is sand, but as there is so much coastline to Mexico, each beach has something slightly different to offer. Relax under a palm tree on the beaches of Yucatán, go snorkelling in Cabo San Lucas, take an eco-friendly whale shark tour at Riviera Maya, a sailing trip to Isla Mujeres from Cancún, or unwind at the end of the day with a sunset cruise and candlelight dinner sailing from Puerto Vallarta.

3. Cabo San Lucas

A huge tourist pull, the famous arch of Cabo San Lucas is situated at the point where the Pacific Ocean becomes the Gulf of California. Known locally as El Arco, the area is a popular resting place for sea lions and makes for a wonderful photo opportunity on the approach by boat. Formed by natural erosion, experts warn this striking spectacle won’t be there forever, so be sure to include it on your holiday hit-list.

4. The Blue House

Turned into a museum dedicated to Frida Kahlo in 1958, the Blue House was actually Frida’s home – where she was born, where she lived, and where she died. After being involved in a terrible accident at the age of 18, Frida was immobilised for several months. During this time she began to paint and today some of the most important of Frida’s works are exhibited in the museum. Throughout her life she lived elsewhere in Mexico and abroad, but always returned to her treasured family home.
