If you want to veer away from sizzling temperatures and enjoy milder climate, we recommend going on a historic escape to Trento, Italy.
Trento is an idyllic town in Northern Italy, situated in the Adige River Valley of the Trentino-Alto/Südtirol region, which lies on the border between Austria and Switzerland, and has the stunning Dolomites range as its backdrop.
Historical buildings and Renaissance al frescoes adorn the town of Trento, making it a charming town that boasts of Italian elegance. When visiting Trento for the first time, make Piazza Duomo your first stop. Go on a promenade around town and admire the beautiful frescoed townhouses and ancient Roman structure in the district. From here, you can easily stroll towards the Church of San Pietro (St. Peter), a gem in the heart of the town which boasts of neo-Gothic style architecture and 15th century workmanship.
For a truly immersive historic excursion, include a visit to Castello del Buoconsiglio in your day tour. This old castle was once the residence of prince-bishops or the lords of Trento. At present, it hosts provincial collections of art and archaeology and temporary exhibitis.
If you want to go off-road and explore outside the centre, there’s a cable car that can bring you directly to the hamlet of Sardagna. Once you arrive in the village, walk towards the uphill road that leads to Poze Park. From this location, you will be rewarded with the relaxing views of the valley and the city of Trento.
And while you’re at it, don’t forget to take a break from your long walks and take an aperitif downtown. The deluge of open-air taverns provide you numerous choices; all you have to do is pick where you want to sit down to enjoy a classic glass of Trentodoc.
If you’re longing for an island retreat, we recommend including Lanzarote in your travel list.
Declared as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Lanzarote boasts of majestic volcanic valleys, pristine azure waters, golden beaches, and lush vegetation. When in Lanzarote, go beyond the beaches and explore the volcanic landscapes of the island where a guided day tour will help you learn about the geothermal energy of the volcanoes. Head south and you will be greeted by the fishing village of El Golfo, which is home to the cinematic green lake of Charco de los Clicos. Formed by a volcanic crater, this green lagoon can be found on black, sandy beach and has appeared in numerous Spanish and international films.
Go north and explore the enchanting views of Cueva de los Verdes (Green Caves), another gem produced by Lanzarote’s volcanic landscapes. This cave tunnel was formed by the eruption of the Corona Volcano, which gave rise to a six-kilometer underground volcanic tunnel that spans from the volcanic cone to the sea. Along the length of this incredible tunnel are at least sixteen jameos or lava caves. Be enchanted by the caves’ whimsical rock formations and lighting effects while inching closer to the centre of the earth.
Enjoy Lanzarote at its best by going to Puerto del Carmen, situated right in the centre of the Lanzarote island. Located just southwest of the airport, this sprawling resort has everything you need for both an exciting and a quiet day at the beach — water sports, sunbeds, and a promenade of pubs. Enjoy the calm waters and fine golden sands in Playa Grande with the kids, or go cycling along the coastline while you take in the island’s magnificent weather. If you’re bringing children along, you’ll be delighted to learn that Lanzarote also has its own zoo in the form of Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park, where the whole family can interact with a wide variety of animal species.
